Perceived the potential of the rapidly growing automotive industry in China, Dr. Chan had acted as the convener for the formation of the Automotive Components Group since early 2004. SMT Reports Steady Growth for Q2/FY2005 |
| The Group achieved revenue of HK$619.5 million (S$133.2 million) and profit attributable to shareholders of HK$32.8 million (S$7.1 million) for the three months ended 30 September 2004. Such figures indicate 41.4% growth in revenue and 17.7% growth in profit attributable to shareholders compared to the results for the three months ended 30 September 2003. For the six months ended 30 September 2004, the Group recorded 33.1% growth in revenue and 16.6% growth in profit attributable to shareholders, reaching HK$1,228.1 million (S$264.1 million) and HK$63.0 million (S$13.6 million) respectively.

| On 10 August 2004, Surface Mount Technology (Holdings) Ltd (SMT, Singapore Exchange stock code: Surface MT) announced its first quarter’s results for the three months ended 30 June 2004 (Q1/FY2005). SMT’s overall revenue reached HK$608.6 million (S$134.3 million) and profit attributable to shareholders recorded HK$30.2 million (S$6.7 million) for the three months ended 30 June 2004. The company achieved a growth of 25.6% in revenue and a growth of 15.4% in profit attributable to shareholders comparing to the results of first quarter of last fiscal year (FY2004) with revenue of HK$484.4 million (S$106.9 million) and profit attributable to shareholders of HK$26.2 million (S$5.8 million) for the three months ended 30 June 2003.

SMT Reports Higher Sales and Profits in Q3/FY2004 |
| For the three months ended 31 December 2003, the Group recorded HK$542.4 million (S$116.9 million) and HK$35.4 million (S$7.6 million) for turnover and profit attributable to shareholders respectively. Compared with the results for the same period of previous year, SMT achieved a growth of 15.9% in turnover and an increase of 16.5% in profit attributable to shareholders. Earnings per share rose from 12.25 HK cents (2.64 Singapore cents) to 13.76 HK cents (2.97 Singapore cents). Net assets per share rose from HK$1.37 (S$0.30) as at 31 March 2003 to HK$1.63 (S$0.35) as at 31 December 2003. Besides, SMT has been making every endeavour to provide a safe and healthy working environment for employees. Our effort is fully recognised by the recent qualification of our factory in Dongguan in the international standard of OHSAS 18001 certification (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series).

| On 11 December, 2003 SMT was ranked among Asia’s top 250 fast moving technology enterprises to hit the Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Asia Pacific Fast 500 league. This is the second annual contest organized by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu to commend technology enterprises with rapid revenue growths. SMT reports a combined revenue growth rate of 90 percent over the past 3 years to qualify for this title.

SMT Announced Q2/FY2004 Results |
| On 19 November, 2003, SMT announced its financial results for the second quarter of FY2004. For the three months ended 30 September 2003, SMT’s turnover and profit attributable to shareholders reached HK$438.1 million (S$97.4 million) and HK$27.9 million (S$6.2 million) respectively, showing 3.6% and 11.8% growth from the same period of the previous year. For the first six months ended 30 September, 2003, SMT recorded HK$922.6 million (S$205.0 million) and HK$54.1 million (S$12.0 million) for its turnover and profit attributable to shareholders. The figures indicated 22.0% and 29.7% growth respectively from the corresponding period of the previous year. SMT has also signed a purchase agreement for a new factory at Tang Xia in Southern China at a cost of RMB 26 million in October 2003. The target date for the operation of the new facility is March 2004. This expansion will ultimately add 400,000 sq. ft. of production space required for SMT’s future growth.

SMT Hong Kong Staff Actively Participated in ISO 9001:2000 Certification Training |
| Representatives from various departments at SMT Hong Kong went through intensive ISO 9001:2000 training in October to prepare the company for ISO 9001 certification. Department heads also discussed with team members on work procedures and documentation and submitted reports to the ISO Certification Program Coordinator for review. After going through this critical training and review phase, SMT will soon enter into document preparation and auditing stages. SMT is targeting to get its ISO 9001:2000 Certification by early 2005.

SMT Launched An Inception Ceremony to Kick-Off its ERP Project |
| SMT launched an inception ceremony for its ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) project on 15th September, 2003. SMT Chairman & Managing Director Dr KB Chan notes in his speech that the main rationale behind the ERP drive is to increase profitability, competitiveness, quality and efficiency in addition to reducing expenses and wastes. Oracle’s IT experts are assisting SMT to customize its ERP systems. SMT targets its ERP program to be fully operational by January 2005.

| On 22 August, SMT announced its financial results for the first quarter of FY2004. SMT Obtains HK$438 Million Loan |
| SMT signed a 4-year syndicated loan agreement with 19 international banks and financial institutions on 15 August 2003. BNP Paribas Hong Kong Branch and DBS Bank Ltd were the Coordinating Arrangers for the HK$438 million (S$98.4 million) revolving credit and term loan facility. The proceeds will be to: (i) refinance the outstanding amounts of HK$238 million syndicated loan facility signed on 18 March 2002 (the “Existing Facility”), and after the full prepayment and cancellation of the existing facility, then (ii) finance the new capital expenditure and (iii) finance the working capital requirements. The facility was oversubscribed and increased from the original HK$350mn to HK$438mn.

SMT Signs Agreement with Oracle |
| On 13 August, SMT signed an agreement with Oracle Corporation for an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system. Oracle will be responsible for providing the ERP management system for SMT. The project will take almost one year to implement. Operation of the system will comprise three phases. Phase I is scheduled to begin in early May 2004. ERP is a software to integrate all departments and functions across a company onto a single computer system. In turn, the central computer system can serve departments’ specific needs, thus greatly improve the operational and business efficiencies.

| Our company Chairman and Managing Director Dr. K.B. Chan has won the election as Chairman of the Hong Kong Electronic Industries Association (HKEIA). Dr. Chan was Vice-Chairman of HKEIA for the term 1999-2001 and 2001-2003. Dr. Chan has about 30 years of experience in the electronics industry and currently holds several positions in public office including the President of the Institute of Industrial Engineering (Hong Kong) and a member of the Electronics Projects Vetting Committee for Technology Support Program under the Innovation and Technology Fund. As the new Chairman of HKEIA, Dr. Chan will continue to promote and execute the objectives of the association to strengthen the electronics industry. SMT Takes Control Measures Against SARS |
| To prevent the spreading of the SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome), which causes atypical pneumonia, all SMT staff and workers in offices and factories are required to wear surgical masks and to observe personal hygiene measures. Sony Corporation has introduced the “Green Partner Environmental Quality Approval Program” in which Sony set the standards and regulations for controlling of the environmental-unfriendly substances. Having meet Sony’s requirements and standards on environmental management activities, SMT is the first company in China who was awarded the OEM Green Partner status from Sony.

ISO 14001 Certification |
| SMT has obtained ISO 14001 Certification for its Dongguan Facilities. ISO 14001 is a voluntary international standard that establishes the requirements for environmental management system. Being one of the pioneers on Green Production in China, SMT has already started lead free soldering, heavy metal elimination and halogen free PCBA.

SMT Announced Financial Results for First Half of FY 2003 |
| On 28 November, SMT announced HK$756.4 million (S$171.1 million) and HK$41.7 million (S$9.4 million) for its turnover and net profit after tax for the six months ended 30 September 2002. The figures represented 93% and 365% growth respectively as compared with the previous corresponding financial period.

| On 22-23 November 2002, SMT participated in “Taking Stock of China 2002 Conference” organized by the Singapore Exchange. A number of SGX listed companies from Singapore, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan has conducted presentations to over 1,000 institutional and private investors during the conference.

Trial Production at Suzhou Factory |
| To serve our customers and to tap the market in the Eastern China region, SMT has established a factory at Suzhou. Trial production has already started in September 2002. The Suzhou factory has a total production area of 80,000sq.ft. with 2 SMT lines installed.

Factory F starts production |
| Factory F on our Dongguan campus has started production in September 2002. This 100,000sq.ft. production area has 12 SMT lines installed with 9 auto-insertion machines. The factory is expected to be fully utilized by Q4 FY 2003.

Incorporation of SMTech Suzhou and start of new manufacturing facility in Eastern China |
| Surface Mount Technology (Holdings) Limited incorporated a new company, Sizhing Electronic (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. ("SMTech Suzhou") in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. The facility is approximately two hours by car from Shanghai in a leading industrial zone. The intended business activities of SMTech Suzhou are to provide Electronics Manufacturing Services to the electronics industry, particularly for potential and existing customers who do final product assembly in Eastern China. The first facility of SMTech Suzhou will have a production area of approximately 80,000 sq. ft. will be operational in late-August 2002.

SMT adds 20,000 SF production area |
| SMT's total production area has increased from 240,000 sq. ft. to 260,000 sq. ft. with the addition of 20,000 sq. ft. to our Factory D in Dongguan. The new extension is in operation to increase our production capacity of that building.

SMT signed a HK$238 million (US$ 30.5million) Syndicated Loan |
| On 18 March 2002, SMT signed a 3-year loan agreement with a syndicate of 13 banks to raise HK$238 million (US$30.5 million) through a syndicated revolving/term loan facility. The Development Bank of Singapore Ltd, Hong Kong Branch was awarded the sole mandate to coordinate the arrangement of the facility. The facility was oversubscribed by 1.5 times upon closing of general syndication and the amount was increased from the original HK$120 million (US$15.4 million) to HK$238 million (US$30.5 million). The proceeds will be used to refinance part of our existing facilities, fund new capital expenditure for its Dongguan plant, set up a new facility in Suzhou (near Shanghai) and for general working capital requirements.

SMT starts construction of 100,000 SF Factory "F" |
| SMT has started the construction of a new factory building, Factory F on our Dongguan campus. The total production area for Factory F will be approximately 100,000 SF. And the target operational date is August. This four-story facility will increase SMT's production capability, especially in box build production together with new additional SMT lines.

SMT received awards on Quality and Productivity |
| On 20 November 2001, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region presented the "2001 Hong Kong Award for Industry: Productivity" to SMT. At the same occasion, SMT received the 2001 Trade and Industry Department Quality Award. The winning awards mark public recognition of the company's achievements in quality and productivity.

Lead-free soldering production has started |
| SMT has started "green production" using lead-free wave soldering technology for one of its Japanese customers. Historically, PCB assembly is using soldering alloy comprises of 63% tin and 37% lead. As lead is hazardous to the environment, the major economies in the world have timetables to eliminate lead from the electronics products using lead-free soldering alloy by the end of the decade.

New RF laboratory now in use |
| A new manufacturing laboratory at SMT on Radio Frequency (RF) is in commission. Well-equipped with latest technology, the RF laboratory is capable to handle R&D projects up to 6GHz testing capability.

Flip Chip Bonder in test run |
